Born in New York and raised in Miami,
Davis knew right away that working in the music business was her
ultimate goal.
The first time she cracked the mic was in 1987 at WMLN-FM, Curry
College radio. Upon graduation Davis worked in promotions at WZOU-FM
Boston. Her mettle first was tested in 1992 when she became a casualty
of budget cuts. Future uncertain, parents skeptical, Davis was
determined to make it. Her “big break” came in snowy Rochester, New York
where she landed the late night gig at WRQI-FM. Calling her a “diamond
in the rough”, her boss encouraged her to set her sights higher. Davis
soon found herself in the same slot in Atlanta at WZGC-FM, Z-93. In
1996, she was moved to mid-days where she created the popular “Out to
Lunch” hour. In 2003, Davis launched the “Mara Davis and Dunham Morning
Show” on Z-93 with co-host Jeff Dunham.
The show mixed rock n’ roll, talk and interviews. Recent guests
include Madeleine Albright, Jack Black, Dave Chappelle, Will Ferrell, Uma Thurman and Viggo Mortenson.
Davis was voted Creative Loafing’s “Best Radio DJ” in 2000 and 2001.
She also was honored as “Woman of the Month” by Atlanta Woman Magazine
in 2004.

She lives in Virginia Highland with her husband Mike,
son Charlie (born October 2005). Daisy, shown below, has retired
to Boca with Mara's mom, Arlene.
